Uh, nice tree, but don’t you think a better spot for it would be off the frame, or at least not so darn close up?!

Somebody’s using thumbnails as full-size images again. This can happen when a lazy agent right-clicks/saves-as all the images from the old listing, trying to save some work or some money getting new pictures. Often they don’t realize that they’re stealing images that are much too small. What has always troubled me about horrible pictures like this is the fact that it’s somebody’s home that they’ve entrusted to this agent to present to the world. I’d be embarrassed.

OK, that's the LAST time I drop acid before going house hunting.

Yikes, somebody needs a lesson on what an acceptable file resolution is for photos.

Well, I seem to have gotten behind the last few days. Back on track now, though!

The Hell?

The Hell?

This monstrosity has no value whatsoever! It’s so badly pixelated that we have hardly any clue as to what is being presented. It certainly does nothing to show off this property.

Butler Not Included

These ones just floor me every time. Why in the world would you post a picture of your client standing in his kitchen for all the world to see? It looks awkward beyond belief.

Artsy-Fartsy

Artsy-Fartsy

It is unlikely that this piece of artwork so gracefully hung on the wall would be included with the house. Most people take these items when they move. It is equally unlikely that the buyer would want it anyway – most people have their own tastes and want to decorate their own space. Worse, we have no idea where this is in the house – the bedroom? Bathroom? Who knows?! It provides no value to the buyer and definitely does a disservice to the seller.

From the ground up

From the ground up

Bonus points to the REALTOR® for using a wide angle lens to capture more of the small bathroom in the frame. However, why shoot at the ceiling? Instead, stand in the doorway and frame as much of the bathroom as possible and include the tub/shower, toilet, sink, and floor in the shot.

This isn’t even nice flooring. And even if it were – so – where is it? What does the rest of the room look like? This provides no value to a potential buyer.

Mirror, Mo

Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

A picture says 1000 words, remember, so try and include as much context as you can in each image. We have no idea what the rest of the bathroom looks like, so make sure you capture it all instead of zooming in on just one element.

Easy to show... unless it's playoff season.

Easy to show... unless it's playoff season.

I thought this was some kind of joke when Calgary REALTOR® Cliff Stevenson sent me a shout-out via Twitter. But later he followed up with the MLS sheet, so what could I do but post it here. This is without question one of the greatest photos ever posted on this blog. Thanks Cliff!

Nothing says “Welcome Home!” quite like a big blue dumpster as the number one (main) photo for the listing. Sure, it’s pretty obvious that this home is getting a new roof, but leave that for the written description and wait until the bin is gone before taking the front shot.
