Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day #241

Filed under: Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day — TimAyres @ 7:40 am

October 31st, 2008

A nice scary one for Hallowe’en! Picture is crooked/off centre, TV is on, poor composition too. Try and shoot rooms at an angle, rather than having your lens pointed perpendicular to the wall. It adds depth perception. And avoid shooting photos at night, they always look too dark.

See all the usual suspects here.

Ilkay Completes Purchase of Ex-TFL Land Near Jordan River

Filed under: Community, Sooke Events — TimAyres @ 8:54 am
The Public Campsite At Jordan River, BC

The Public Campsite At Jordan River, BC

The Times Colonist reports that Vancouver-based developer Ender Ilkay has completed part of his desired purchase of ex-Western Forest Products tree farm license land near Jordan River. The parcel that Ilkay has bought is relatively small in relation to the entire 2500 hectares (nearly 6200 acres) that he has an option to purchase. At 250 hectares (nearly 620 acres), the purchase cost him $3 million and change, according to the report.

Interestingly, this particular parcel was not subject to the knee-jerk Capital Regional District down-zoning of private land to prevent Ilkay from developing around Jordan River. The purchased lands were already zoned with a minimum lot size of 120 hectares (nearly 300 acres).

Cleary, Ilkay loves the property and sees a potential future in it. He is land banking. In the future, as growth increases and the community mindset changes, Ilkay may be able to either sell off or develop the land to profit from it.

Smart move in my view, beats the stock market lately!

It will be interesting to see what happens with the court cases launched by Western Forest Products and the Association of BC Land Owners seeking to strike down the down-zoning by the CRD. It won’t affect his newly-purchased lands, but Ilkay may excercise his option to purchase the remaining land if the zoning is repealed.

If you have any questions about vacant land in the CRD or Sooke, or are thinking of selling your property, fill in my contact form or call me at 250-885-0512

Spoiled-For-Choice-Much?

Ayres Directive #1 violated again. This shot does nothing to show off the bathroom. And good God, how would you choose a necklace in the morning?! I’d be there all day ;-)

Heloooooooooo down there!

Heloooooooooo down there!

I suspect we’ll be seeing more of these types of photos now that our MLS system allows vertically-oriented shots. Just ’cause it’s there doesn’t mean you have to use it.

Just In Time for Hallowe'en - A Spooky Hallway

Just In Time for Hallowe'en - A Spooky Hallway

Aren’t you just waiting for the ghosts and goblins to jump out of those doors? Our new MLS® system has the ability (yay!) to accomodate “portrait” oriented pictures, which would have suited this shot instead of the wide “landscape” orientation shown here. Also, the darkness and the crookedness of the hallway makes it kind of a spooky photo.

Sooke’s Seaview Mobile Home Park Protected by Sooke Council

Sooke Municipal Hall

Sooke Municipal Hall

An updated on the situation I posted about last week:

Last night, at the Sooke Council Chambers, the owners of the not-so-mobile homes in Sooke’s Seaview Trailer Park breathed a sigh of relief as Sooke Council unanimously passed the proposed policy on mobile home park redevelopments.

The policy protects mobile home owners by requiring the owner of the park to either compensate the owners for the fair market value of their homes or relocate the home to another pad before redevelopment will be permitted.

The Council also gave a legal opinion that the eviction notice served to the owners was in fact illegal (probably due to the fact that it stated that all municipal approvals were in place for redevelopment, which was untrue).

One park resident has been in e-mail contact with me and tells me that the owners have a court date in November to challenge the eviction notice. Stay tuned for updates.

Esquimalt-Juan De Fuca Recount Confirms Keith Martin’s Win over Troy De Souza

Filed under: Community, News — TimAyres @ 6:58 pm

Hey, remember that little election we had a couple weeks ago? Well, officially, Sooke has been unsure about who our Member of Parliament is since election night, because incumbent Liberal MP Dr. Keith Martin’s margin of victory over challenger Conservative Troy De Souza was so slim. A recount was granted last week, and according to this Times Colonist article, Dr. Keith Martin’s victory has been upheld.

Congratulations to Dr. Martin on being elected for a sixth term in our riding, and much respect to Mr. De Souza for being so gracious in his defeat.

Sooke Halloween Ideas: Hallowindow [Video]

H/T to Jason van der Valk at Edgeflow Media for the link.

This was too cool not to post. Mark Gervais has created a haunting multimedia animation designed to be projected on your windows on Halloween night. Combine it with a couple of speakers and you’ve got a display that will make you the envy of your neighbourhood. DVDs are sold out (and a little late to order anyway), but you can still download part of the DVD for $6 and play it on your computer. All you need is a projector and a white sheet tacked to the window frame. The result is this:

Hit up http://hallowindow.com to purchase the display for your Halloween Haunted House!

Another member of the Horrible MLS Photo Of The Day Witness Protection Programme. I think it goes without saying to leave your clients out of the pictures, especially their children.

Other than that it’s not a very good picture anyway: it’s crooked, at an awkward angle and poorly lit.
